In the music industry, especially the rap industry, certain actions can be made out to be “gay” and can result in ignorant comments or even failure to acknowledge one as a rapper. The Atlanta-based rapper has admitted to magazines such as Complex or GQ that about 90 percent of his clothing is women’s clothing and the other 10 percent only consists of men’s t-shirts and men’s under clothes. The rapper is not gay, but does enjoy the feel of women’s clothing. The rapper who goes by the alias “Young Thug”, has also been seen wearing tight fitted women’s clothing. Or dressing both genders in clothing that could be unisex showing that men are no different than women or vice versa. Many designers have used a sense of creativity in their shows, dressing women in men’s clothes in an attempt to show their opposition to gender stereotypes. According to the New York Times, Ricardo Tisci, creative designer of Givenchy featured a young transitioning model in his fall fashion show of 2010. Louis Vuitton is not the only designer to feature a young man in women’s clothing. In the interview, the two stated, who made these rules and who says that, we as humans, have to follow them. The two spoke on adopting gender specifics and how these specifics causes society to continue to be close minded. In one specific interview with the Huffington Post, Willow and Jaden Smith spoke about their clothing line MSFTS. Both Willow and Jaden speak on small minded people and how they do not appreciate their opinions. The two speak of gender roles and how everyone should break these roles and should not uphold the ideas of society. In countless interviews, Smith and his younger sister, Willow, have spoken out against the constant ignorant idea that claims a man must to wear men’s clothing and a woman must wear women’s clothing. Jaden is not the only one of his family who expresses himself without the burden of gender roles. He proudly expresses himself in clothes that society says is made for women. The 17-year old been seen wearing “women’s clothing” all over Los Angeles and does not care what anyone has to say about his wardrobe. Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, has practiced gender neutrality and has confirmed that he will be modeling women’s clothing in the upcoming Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2016 fashion show. This is called gender neutrality and is now being appropriated more by citizens of the United States. It’s been a gateway for children to express themselves in a way which would’ve impossible any sooner.īut what if you aren’t gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender? People like Jaden Smith or even the rapper Young Thug have both decided to ignore the stigma society has placed on their gender and the people around them by wearing women’s clothing. With this and the gay rights movement, 2015 has created a pathway of all sorts of people to be who they really are or to transition publicly into the person they truly want to be. In 2015, many have made it easier to refute these sexist ideas with the thought that items of clothing, genres of music or even accessories that are generally created for a certain gender, can be used by the other. Society has always had keen a way of placing people in a box making it harder for one to be who they really are. Gender roles and gender specifics have always been an issue in America and gradually has gotten worse.
